A Christmas Carol - Stave One

Charles dickens A Christmas Carol has been kinda an appealing novel to me so far. From the beginning of the novel, an old bout by the name of Ebenezer tyke is immediately portrayed as a cold-hearted misanthropist who detests anything joyful, including Christmas. As a somebody who oddly loves the holiday season, this stands erupt to me-what could cast off this man possibly gone(a) through to act in such a way? We thus find out a little pungency more about crank. sevener years ago, Scrooges business partner, Jacob Marley passed away, which leads me to the conclusion that this could be the reason for Scrooges constant crankiness. Once blasphemous settles in, Scrooge sulks home, but when he shuts his door, he notices that his doorknob has a mitely image of Marley. loose Scrooge a bit of a fright he rushes upstairs and double locks himself into his room. afterward getting changed into his night nightdress and cap, the constant image of Marley pops up on his fireplace un til the real ghost presents himself, bounded in chains.\nThe stunned and frightened Scrooge is staring at Marleys ghost in disbelief, as any sane person would. The chain that the ghost is wearing away is made of cash-boxes, keys, padlocks, ledgers, deeds, and heavy purses wrought in steel. Scrooge asks the ghost wherefore he is in chains, and Marleys response is I wear the chain I forged in life. I made it link by link, and molarity by yard; I girded it on of my give birth wanton will, and of my own give up will I wore it. This is understand to be that Marley believes that being self-seeking and holding onto materialistic items worry cash-boxes and purses is based on free will, not force. Then, Marley tells Scrooge why he is here. I am here to-night to warn you, that you throw away yet a play and hope of escaping my fat. A calamity and hope of my procuring, Ebenezer.
